In Partnership

FUND RAISING FOR CHARITIES and GOOD CAUSES.

The guaranteed entry places available through Rotary are available to those willing to raise a guaranteed level of sponsorship monies. No race entry fee is payable.

The principal causes jointly supported by IronmanUK & Rotary in connection with the 2010 event are:

The Leukaemia research fund (principal cause)

“Fighting the battle against cancers of the blood.”

2010 - 50 years since the establishment of the Leukaemia Research Fund

The only national charity devoted exclusively to fighting these diseases, Leukaemia Research is at the forefront of the fight against Leukaemia, Hodgkin's and other lymphomas, myeloma, myelodysplasia and aplastic anaemia. Their scientists are dedicated to improving treatments, finding cures and learning how to prevent these diseases, diagnosed in over 24,500 people in the UK each year

Will you be one of the great BANANA ARMY!. Last year the BANANA ARMY was made up of over 3000 triathletes all helping to raise over £500,000 for Leukeamia Research. Are you prepared to join them in 2010 and get prepared for the big day at the UK Ironman Triathlon?

Together let us make a significant contribution to mark the 50th year

2 Children’s Hospice'S  (principal cause)

“Helping Children with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.”

In the south-west of England alone there are over 800 children & their families who could be helped. Children’s Hospice South West was started to help them, with the first hospice opening in Barnstaple in 1995 and the second newly opened in North Somerset in 2007. These are the only children’s hospice in the south-west & support over 200 children & their families, offering respite, relaxation, friendship, a sense of community & beyond that can share the 24-hour care of a very sick child & support the family in bereavement.

The demands have continued to increase. The aim now is to provide a third hospice, this time in Cornwall and your help is needed to both contribute significantly  to the £15 million that is needed to build, equip & endow it with initial running costs and to start to build a 3rd. hospice in the South West.

Our additional major causes are:

3 MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Dedicated to the care of people affected by cancer.

Marie Curie provides a broad range of help and support to cancer patients and their families through their services of Nursing, Hospice Care, Palliative Care and Research.

Marie Curie Nurses now care for around 50% of all cancer patients who die at home, working through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the familiar surroundings of their own home.  Families and carers are provided with practical and emotional support at what can be a trying and an exhausting time, all without charge to patients and carers.

Hospices offer specialist support in a relaxed and comfortable environment, a free of charge service to patients or their families, and Marie Curie Cancer Care now provide the largest number of hospice beds outside the NHS.

Marie Curie scientists are at the forefront of cancer research and their Palliative Care Research and Development Unit seeks to improve care for those affected by life-limiting illnesses.

Voluntary contributions, together with statutory funding, are essential to continue providing these vital services – your efforts and contributions will help in supporting this work.

4 Life Education Centres

  • Contributing to life-skills and health education programmes, utilising models of best practice.

By working in partnership with schools and others in the community

  • Life Education Centres is the largest charity of its kind building partnerships with primary schools and the community as a whole to support and promote best practice in health education.

  • Highly trained Educators work in specially designed mobile classrooms  providing a stimulating learning environment, working with children from the age of 3 upwards in the belief that effective drug prevention education cannot be left until children reach adolescence.

 Under the theme

"STOP IT BEFORE IT STARTS"

  • Rotary and IronmanUK want to make a meaningful contribution to the continuing cost of providing this enlightened approach to teaching young children about healthy living.

Exceptionally, we have just a handful of bonded entry places for athletes strongly committed to raising funds for an individual charity. If you are in this category take a look at the list of charities that Rotary & IronmanUK have agreed to support.

If you take an entry place in this category, your fund raising will be divided between your preferred charity & the causes supported jointly by IronmanUK & Rotary in the proportion as agreed between Rotary and yourself: up to 50% may be passed without deduction to your nominated cause. If your charity is listed please submit an application entering the name(s) of the charity that you wish to carry sponsorship for. Please note that the sponsorship monies that you raise will be channelled via Rotary. In turn, the funds will be passed to the nominated charity in full & credited to your fund raising efforts.

If when completing our on-line entry form you find these few entry places are taken, please e-mail us & ask if we can offer another place.

Similarly, if the charity you wish to support is not listed ask if it may be possible for us to add it to the list and offer a race entry slot.

FOR THE FUTURE

Discussions are taking place now to consider the establishment of a trust to work towards establishing a permanent Sporting Facility in the years ahead – facilities that could be used by triathletes and the wider public.

If you wish to know more and be advised of progress please email and we shall add your name to our contact list.
